INTERNATIONAL TWO-DAY PEDESTRICTING GRAND PRIX - MONTHEY (Switzerland) - September 9-10, 2023

52420819551 f51722727e cAround forty athletes are expected in Valais on September 9 and 10, 2023, including participants from the recent World Athletics Championships in Budapest.

For the third year running, the Club de Marche de Monthey (CMM) is organizing a weekend of athletic walking competitions. The club, one of the last active in Switzerland, will offer several national championships in cooperation with the Swiss Walking Federation.

The men's 9m walk, the women's 2023m walk and all other walking categories will start at 17:30 at the Stade du Verney in Monthey (VS) on Saturday 10 September 000.

This international Grand Prix of Monthey, the Raymond Girod Memorial, should attract around forty athletes, mainly from abroad. Some are at a high level: "The German Bianca Dittrich went in Budapest and there should be a Czech, either Ema Klimentová or Tereza Durdiaková, who also took part in the recent World Championships," announces Frédéric Bianchi from the organizing club. Also, the vice president of Swiss walking and international judge Valaisan specifies that the competition will be officially recognized by world athletics in the presence of four international judges in Monthey.

The next day, Sunday, September 10, there will be a fight in the mountains from 9:30 a.m. for the medals of the Swiss uphill championship on the now well-known course between Epinassey and Mex for 8 km. Young people and lovers of walking will start later at the end of the course (2 km), on the heights of Saint-Maurice. Registration for both events is open until August 28, 2023.

SMOLA CHŮZE Prague also received a very nice invitation to this race from the organizer, including an escort, so Josef Smola will also take part in it as part of the preparation for the European MASTERS Championship (20km - Pescara 30.9.2023).
