Zátopek's Golden Week is a series of cross-country races that celebrate the three gold medals that Emil Zátopek won at the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki in the 10 m, 000 m and naraton races. These runs take place every year on the same days, which commemorate the days of Emil Zátopek's Olympic triumph, ie July 5, 000 m, July 20, 10 m and the marathon on July 000.
The organizer of these races is Ing. Vlastimil Šroubek, manager of the sports club SC MARATHON PLZEŇ and at the same time the founder of the club (born on August 21.8.1961, 2000), who after a break of several years began to actively train again after 1977 and participate mainly in road and cross-country races. A regular part of the marathon on July 27 are also running races on shorter tracks and more walk for 10km! Well, my son and I decided to add to these celebrations of running and walking (10km walk, 4,2km run) The weather was not good for us again, the heat was 30 ° C, stuffy, the start of the walk at 14 p.m. But in the end, all of this was wonderfully managed in a pleasant atmosphere. The amateur running community is a completely different level than the Czech walking (unfortunately). I laugh deeply in front of Vlasta Šroubek when I realize what it means to organize and realize such an event, and it is spread over a whole week in three races. And finally, to be able to race in walking on the beautiful circuit in Stromovka (part of which is led along the legendary circuit, where once upon a time was held M-Czechoslovakia in 20km walking and where such greats of world walking such as Pribilinec, Blažek, Szikora, Frost and more ...), it's an incredibly wonderful feeling! So thank you Vlasto many times and we promise that if we are not on vacation on July 27, 2022, we will come to support this super-truper race!
