For example, the pedestrians from the Matej Spišiak training group, led by Matej Tóth, who were training for three weeks at the Italian alpine resort of Melago at XNUMX meters above sea level.

"Paradoxically, the measures suited us. We had absolute peace of mind for training. In the whole tourist area in the Velalunga Valley, we were de facto the only ones. I even trained on the main road, which is normally full of cars, " pointed out the Olympic champion, who returned to Melag for training after seven years.

Anti-pandemic measures in this area of Italy on the border with Austria were extremely strict at the time when Spišiak's group trained there. "Without a negative covid-19 test, you could not leave the Curon Venosta area, which includes Melago. The curfew also applied, the hotels did not accept guests and we could only stay thanks to confirmation that we are professional athletes on a business trip. That's why we had the family hotel Alpenjuwel only and only for ourselves, " Matej Tóth described the situation. “We were taken care of directly by the owners of the hotel, we did not meet anyone else. So we created a kind of bubble. It was completely dead in the whole area. No one was there - just our group, which was traditionally joined by the best Czech pedestrian Anežka Drahotová. "

On the trails in and around Melag are in addition Matej Tóth was prepared by the best Slovak pedestrians Mária Katerinka Czaková, Michal Morvay, Ľubomír Kubiš. They were later joined by the Czech vice-champion of Europe 2018 for 20 km and the former junior pedestrian world champion Anežka Drahotová.
